Wild (Trailer Review)

Cheryl Strayed is at a crossroads in her life in Wild, the newest film from Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club and The Young Victorian). Nick Hornby adapted Strayed's memoir and Reese Witherspoon plays her on the screen. After dealing with personal loss and struggling with heroin, Strayed set out on a 1,100-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. It was journey of self-discovery and self-therapy. The film looks to forgo a one (wo)man show by stuffing it with plenty of flashbacks for Strayed to recall, including the relationship with her ex-husband.

This trailer showcases both the beauty of nature and the dark recesses of a human drama. It's Into the Wild meets Blue Valentine. While Reese won't be alone onscreen, she very well might occupy every scene. After directing two stars to Oscar wins last year (Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto), Vallée looks to have another contender on the horizon in Witherspoon, herself an Oscar winner for Walk the Line

What do you make of this trailer for Wild? Do you think this might put Witherspoon back in the spotlight. What do you feel is her best role to date? Feel free to add to the conversation in the comments below.

Wild walks into theaters in the United States on December 5th.
